A few issues to be upset about

I don’t usually bring in political articles in an effort to keep the comment boards civil, but some of these issues in the past week or so have been pretty frustrating.

The Evil P2P Menace!
This CNET news article reports that Congress is now claiming P2P networks are a threat to national security. Why? Because a number of dumb monkey government employees installed limewire on their work computers and somehow ended up sharing classified documents. You’d think this could be resolved by preventing computer illiterate employees from installing software on their computer in the first place, disallowing file sharing in the workplace, and firing those employees that actually do so. I mean, common sense is you don’t download music and movies at work. Geez. But National Security is probably not their greatest interest. This is most likely another “ingenious” way of preventing illegal filesharing spurred by the special interests, or yet another attempt at preventing unregulated internet communication (as an ob apt CNET commenter observed).

Bush deems mercury too expensive to remove from children’s vaccines
Bush is set to veto a ban on Mercury in children’s vaccines, citing the heavy costs it will impart on drug makers. It doesnt’ matter that scientific tests (”Screw science! I’m the decider!!!”) have shown a strong link to autism and other developmental disabilities, or that mercury has been removed from animal vaccines for exactly those same reasons. No, not at all. Idiot. Note that this comes just a week after his executive order, simply titled “Blocking Property of Certain Persons Who Threaten Stabilization Efforts in Iraq” which allows the govenment acquisition of all property belonging to concientious objectors to the war (read more here). Check out the full vaccine article here.

Where’s Ron Paul?
Straight out, I must say I don’t agree with his stance on abortion, but everything else he’s saying is gangbusters. The guy’s a stout Libertarian who has gained immense popularity through the net, and more campaign funding that John McCain, yet no news organization is talking about him. Maybe it’s because he’s the one Republican candidate threatening to actually stir things up. Seriously, I call him the Kucinich of the Republican Party. Check out his campaign page here, and the article on the media snuffage here.

Child Rapist let off because he didn’t speak English
Sometimes I can’t believe how broken our justice system is. A man who raped a 7 year old girl has been let off the hook because the court took too long to find an interpreter. Hmm. You think regardless of English language ability he could understand moral rights and wrongs. Sick bastard, I hope he rots. Read the article here.
