Ai Otsuka — 5:09a.m.

This Christmas Kris got me another batch of awesome JPop CDs, including Ai Otsuka’s Love Cook. Now, you probably know I dig Ai Otsuka, but the opening track for Love Cook, ’5:09a.m.’ is rocketing to the top of my favorites. It’s a soothing, powerful love song, with a rather infectious melody.
But even better than that is the song’s sentiment, for when I read the translated lyrics I found myself moved. Maybe because I project my feelings for Kris onto any love song, or maybe just because I’m completely sappy. Either way, I find it to be really good stuff.
Just take a listen:
Here are the lyrics in English [via House of Lyrics]
In the far-off distance, light was born
Colours were added to the flowing clouds
The tranquil air gives a refreshing feeling
Standing strong despite the blowing windThis was like the view from a high ground
The time when I looked into the distance with you
Together side by side, we looked at the same place
These have definitely become things I love the mostIt was quiet in the beginning
Only waiting for this light
The swinging feeling will never change
Your warmth that I feel when we embrace
I can’t forget even till nowThe yellow curtain is swinging in the wind
Light peeks in through the small opening
Surely, you, who are sleeping beside me
At this moment, I’ve fallen deep in love with
And check out a live performance of the song:
