Wanna be on Top?
America’s Next Top Model is my guilty pleasure. It’s the one semi-addictive reality show that has earned a spot on my usual limited nerdite TV roster of Jeopardy! and Mythbusters. While each year churns out a less exciting group of girls to root for, I still try to watch at least half of the show each week. This week it’s down to three girls in Thailand. Ooh who will win? Will it be bubbly Danielle, cocksure Jade or poor ‘lil Joanie, who went through painful oral surgery for 12+ hours in one episode. Joanie may just get the pity vote, plus ANTM has never been a blonde. Danielle has the best personality, but the judges probably won’t let her thick southern accent slide. Jade is a tad bit over-confident, but she’s the most exotic and almost-weird looking one, and that’s top model material. And what model isn’t part diva?
I’m torn between Danielle and Jade; I think Joanie comes across a little back-stabby and I don’t dig her lisp. Danielle is more like a stand-up comedian at times though, but that’s part of her charm. She is a little whiny though. Jade has that androgyny thing going for her and this teeny tiny little waist egads! She’s unconventional and takes risks and that’s so cool. Her mom is some kind of spiritual healer/aura cleanser, so maybe Jade could lend her bohemian appeal to teens, like some hippie spokesmodel. It all depends on how well she memorizes her lines for the upcoming commercial shoot since she flubbed the last one. Oh wow, what a glooorious waste of time ANTM is! Anyways, long story short, I guess I pick Jade. How about you?

I don’t really see Joanie as back-stabby, and while I really like her (loved her during soul modeling week), I have the hardest time with her (just mostly based on her look) thinking of her as a “top” model…I actually think she’s kind of weird looking. That said I’m probably still rooting for her.
I love Danielle of course, but who doesn’t? Plus, it’s time for a sista to win again…oh yeah, Naima is black too…even though everyone on her season seemed to forget too…
Jade makes me laugh probably the most although I find her annoying at the same time. She might take the Eva route for the win.
oh, and i hate you for getting the theme song stuck in my head…
Hmm. I think Danielle should win, regardless of Tyra’s criticisms. Tyra is such a punk anyway. “You gotta have fire in your eyes. Watch this. See? No fire. Now watch me put the fire in my eyes” *squints a little* “There. See the difference? Being a model is hard work”
Please, Tyra. Just shut the hell up sometimes. The girl has teh accent because she grew up in the south. You can’t change a speech pattern you’ve learned through 20+ years of speech overnight.

I watch this show occasionally. From what I see, Jade…She’s got the features…but not the attitude. Total bitch…I even recall that the judges did mention something about it. But regardless, they seem to love her modeling talent and that’s why she’s still in this game and probably will pull through all the way.
I missed soul-modeling week, but aren’t you just a sucker for blondes Greg? Chris and I joke about that “fire” in Tyra’s eyes a bunch.. and she just did it again this past episode! Too funny! Rosie did you see Furonda in the deleted scenes? She was waaaay bitchier. I think Jade just feels this is her big break and she has toned it down a bit. Her face just screams “uppity”, but I like how she looks so stoned all the time.
Hmm.. I miss the days of Elyse and Yoanna. Who was your guys’ all-time favorite(s)?
Elise. All the way. I like brainy girls, hence my marriage to Kris.
Well my girlfriend is a blonde more for reasons of dye than anything…she’s naturally more red/strawberry blonde. But because of her I have definitely made my peace with blondes. (before it was just brunettes)
My favorites in the past were probably:
1. Mercedes (yes i was totally rooting for her instead of Yoanna…the lupus and the Billie Holiday combination was lethal for me)
2. Kahlen (the whole cute having never had a boyfriend thingy always gets me)
3. Eva (cause she’s actually successful now),
4. Toccara (big, black, beautiful, AND lovin’ it)
5. Sara (cause she was hot)
6. Norelle (just for the entertainment factor)
7. Naima (for the hawk and the Coltrane song reference)
8. Nicole (because nobody remembers her)
and Nicole, Yaya, and Jayla before they started getting on my nerves.
I could probably add to this list too…yes I have seen every episode of this show (except for the season 1 and 5 finales for some reason).
I like brainy girls too, but for some reason the incidental humor of Norelle and Jade hits me harder.
I like it when the girls get kicked off the sho. I clap my hands and cheer.

Wow Kyle, you’re sadistic. Mercedes is on my “ANTM Screwed Over” list, but Yoanna is just so darn pretty. Greg do you mean Sara from this season or the Persian Sara? I prefer the brunette Sara. I always root for the sweet girls (or the ones going blind or the ones that have bum knees or an incurable disease) but so far only Naima has won from that team.

I can’t believe Jade couldn’t even read the cue cards, but that’s her doing her own thing again I guess. Her poem was awesome. Yay for Danielle! She really is a sweetie, isn’t she?
To the end Jade entertained. Finally, a final two where either way I was happy. Kinda takes the suspense out of it, eh?

I love this show because it gives the girls a big opportunity. I miss Janice because the other judges are pretty boring, but of course I will still watch it. Cycle 9 starts on September 19th!
