Battle of the Planets (US Gatchaman) Movie forthcoming

Ryan DeRousse over at Obsessed with Film has a post up regarding a forthcoming film version of Battle of the Planets, the American “adaptation” of the Japanese Gatchaman anime, to be helmed by “director Kevin Munroe and producer Tom Gray”. If you’ve not seen Gatchaman, it’s this wonderfully strange tale of mutants in Condor-Man gear who fight an alien overlord in outer space. It’s a very funky, very 70’s action sci-fi anime. Battle of the Planets was quite the far departure from the original, featuring various tweaks and edits, including the addition of an R2-D2 character, to make the “cartoon” more family friendly and more “Star Wars” for the then Lucas-crazed kids. Modifications aside, the idea of a big budget film adaptation is definitely intriguing. I mean, at the very least it isn’t another comic book film. You can find out more about the production on the original OwF ariticle, here.
