Dreamlogic.net’s Ninja List

So, I’m a little late on this, but who cares? December 5th was Day of the Ninja, an effort to spread Ninja appreciation given the Pirates vs. Ninja net phenomenon. Now, I find the Pirates vs. Ninja thing to be a bit lame ( I mean, c’mon. Stealthy assassins against legions of unwashed thieves and [...]

Witchblade Vol. 2 anime review

So, I’ve now seen Witchblade Volume 2. In my review of the previous disc I was a little nonplussed with the series, but intended to withhold judgment until I saw at least the second disc. And now that I have, does the future of Witchblade look any brighter?
Note: If you haven’t already, go back and [...]

Dororo movie review

Let’s get this out of the way. I loved Dororo. I thought it was a whole lot of fun. In fact, I found it far more fun than any of the summer films I’ve seen all year. If that’s enough of a recommendation, by all means stop here and go find yourself a copy. However, [...]

DVD REVIEW . The Professional: Golgo 13

The Professional: Golgo 13 was one of the very first anime films I ever saw, way back in the days of Streamline and Orion Pictures (see: Akira, Crying Freeman, Fist of the North Star). In fact it was so far back, when the Luc Besson Leon: The Professional came out, I figured it was a [...]

Third Keroro Movie on the Horizon

So Keroro-Movie.net has been revamped to promote the upcoming third Keroro movie, Keroro vs. Keroro.
I don’t know about you, but Kris and I find Keroro absolutely hilarious. While the Manga have been licensed here in the states, I know of no plans to bring the show or films stateside. This new film is scheduled [...]

Witchblade Vol. 1 + Starter Set anime review

First off, I must admit I have no prior experience with Witchblade other than a small Tomb Raider and Witchblade comic book I received way back in high school. I remember something regarding her being a treasure hunting aristocrat, somewhat like Lara Croft, and possessing some power that made some funky skimpy armor appear [...]

Oh wow! Cutie Honey The Live!

No, it’s not a typo. It’s the live action television show of Go Nagai’s Cutie Honey! Now, Cutie Honey The Movie was easily one of my favorite superhero films of the past few years. It was tongue in cheek, but sweet, action packed, and a whole lot of fun. While the show stars Mikie Hara [...]

MOVIE REVIEW . Tales from Earthsea

Long ago, dragons and humans lived in harmony. Then the desire for material wealth led the humans to inhabit the earth and sea, and the dragons stuck with fire and air. This is the backdrop for the newest feature from Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Grave of the Fireflies), Tales From [...]

So Funimation has been kind enough to give us two Witchblade Collectors’s Box + DVD Vol. 1 sets to give away. Can you say “awesome”? The set includes the first DVD of the Anime series, a soundtrack cd, and of course, the shiny box itself.

The DVD contains episodes 1- 4 along with the following extras:
A [...]

New Naruto games for Wii and DS

So this one is for you folks who actually dig Naruto. I’ve still not made it through a full episode of the show, so I’ve no real knowledge of these games, but heck, they’re Wii and DS games. The former even looks to play like the old Sega Dreamcast great, Power Stone. Below are press [...]

MOVIE REVIEW . Sakuran

Sakuran starts off strong, bombarding the senses with bravado in all beats: clashing costume colors, punky tunes, and a tough chick lead. Gorgeous crane shots of goldfish harems and cherry blossom petal swarms act as the liberal cayenne in this bright bright bright world. But this is not our world, this is [...]

MOVIE REVIEWS [In Brief] . Ghost in the Shell: SAC: Solid State Society, Behind the Mask, and Bloodrayne

…and a little more catch up. Reviews for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society, Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, and, in preparing for the upcoming San Francisco screening of Postal, Uwe Boll’s BloodRayne. Enjoy.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society . How’s that for the [...]

Rose & Camelia - I give you slap!!!

If you made a Jane Austen novel into a fighting game, you’d probably end up with something like Rose & Camelia, a Japanese flash game of 17th century high-society slapping that has to be seen to be believed. It’s quite a bit of fun and features some fairly intuitive controls (click the action button that [...]

Yo-yo Girl Cop (aka: Sukeban Deka 2006) In SF for one week only!

I don’t know how I didn’t hear about this earlier. Today starts the one week special engagement of Kenta Fukasaku (Battle Royale 2)’s Yo-Yo Girl Cop (aka: Sukeban Deka : Kôdo nêmu = Asamiya Saki ), the latest in the Sukeban Deka series of movies. Now, if you’re not familiar with Sukeban Deka, you [...]

Space Battleship Yamato, Naked Weapon, The Holy Mountain movie reviews

So this weekend is going to be a bit overly busy, so a full length film review is pretty much out of the question. In exchange, I offer these horse-capsule reviews. Note, for those of you repeatedly searching for Linda, Linda, Linda, I’ll have you covered in a week or so.
Space Battleship Yamato [...]

MOVIE REVIEW [HE-SAID, SHE-SAID][SCREENER] . Paprika (aka Papurika)

Paprika
Note: If you’re already a fan of anime and familiar with Satoshi Kon, skip to the third paragraph.
HE SAID
Truth be told, anime is no different than any other storytelling medium. The rabid otaku would like you to believe otherwise, but really, it’s just like everything else. There’s a vast wasteland of uninspired, tedious dreck, [...]

D’oh! Missed Hostel 2, but free screenings of Go-Bots and Starblazers!

So we had planned on attending the Hostel 2 advanced screening in the city, with Eli Roth in attendance, but as luck would have it I had my dates mixed up. In fact, the screening actually started about an hour ago. Oh well.  We’ll try to get a review up sometime around it’s release in a week or so.
Some other cool items though. If you haven’t already checked out SFIndie’s Another Hole in the Head lineup, you really should. The festival starts Friday, and there are a lot of great films playing this year. Check out the schedule here, as well as our reviews of Murder Party, [...]

ANIME DVD [EARLY] REVIEW . Afro Samurai Director’s Cut 2-Disc Edition

Being that I’ve already written a number of articles on Afro Samurai, including my first impressions of the series, and a full review of the Director’s Cut of the series, I think I’ve completely exhausted all I can say about the Afro Samurai story. For the sake of a cohesive DVD review, I’m reprinting the [...]
