CSS — Donkey music review

Don’t you hate it when bands you like — and you like them partially because no one’s ever heard of them — are featured on TV commercials? CSS’ Music is my Hot Hot Sex serenaded some spinning iPod Touch, making me quite sad for a quite long twenty seconds, but then, who can stay [...]

M.I.A. — Kala music review

M.I.A. You might have seen her in the Marc Jacobs ads. You might have heard her on the Vexille soundtrack or the Pineapple Express trailer. You might have heard her and thought she was Lady Sovereign getting funkified as I did when I first heard 20 Dollar last year, a mish-mash of [...]

Classic Albums: The Doors dvd review

Starring: Jim Morrison and crew
Genre: Rockumentary, rock
“Is he writing about death? Do people write about that?! It’s not like Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da!” - Henry Rollins on The End by The Doors
When the Doors came out in the late 60s, it was clear that they were a different kind of rock band, one that was [...]

Love Psychedelico — This Is Love Psychedelico // music review // early!

I’ve been trying to figure out a way to handle this review in a non-fanboy sort of fashion, and I realized I can’t. I love Love Psychedelico. They’re one of my favorite bands. In fact, they’re one of the few bands that have prompted me to purchase multiple albums in these days of rotten popular music and lossy MP3s. And, keep in mind these are import CDs (Yes, I dig Love Psychedelico that much.) [...]

Karaoke Room 2

I could have sworn there was already a Karaoke Room 2 but by the McCully Times supermarket(?). Maybe that was Karaoke Room 1? I even asked the clerk about it and I’ve already forgotten the info. Erg, I have got to pay attention. It was awesome ‘cos you could get drinks [...]

Gamba Karaoke

We love this place so much that we wanted to keep it a secret. But we also love this place so much that we had to try to drum up some business for them. Go Gamba!
Before we found this place, South Bay karaoke hunts were all about masking feeling uncomfortable while a Korean [...]

MUSIC REVIEW . Puffy’s Honeycreeper, Hitomi Yaida’s Single Collection, Chara’s Caramel Milk

I haven’t had much time to watch films these past couple weeks, what with a hectic work schedule and a pile of animation sent to me for review (I’m currently on the third disc of an eight disc set), but I’ve been listening to quite a bit of music at work. Given the fact I [...]

Angels and Airwaves — I-Empire music review

To give you an idea of how out of the popular music scene I am, when I initially received a notice about Angels and Airwaves’ I-Empire, I turned it down. I thought to myself, “Who are these guys? That dude with the glasses looks like he’s from Devo. And this 70’s throwback cover? I don’t [...]

DVD Drop-box . Kama Sutra, American Assassin, Smooth Jazz

So here starts a new column at Dreamlogic.net. Sometimes we get these phantom submissions from distributors looking for us to review their titles. And sometimes these titles seem a bit out of our normal realm of coverage, even with this being Dreamlogic. So, in order to give deserving titles a fair shake without devoting an [...]

VIDEO FIND . Meiko Kaji, Still Grudge Singing after all these years

Check this out. Meiko Kaji, now in her sixties, performing Urami Bushi (Female Prisoner Scorpion’s Grudge Song). She actually looks pretty healthy for her age (she’s dropped the stick-skinny thing, but not the Stray Cat Rock clothes), and still sounds exactly the same as on her Zenkyokushu album. Check out the video below.

MOVIE REVIEWS [In Brief] . Masked Rider: The First, Castle of Sand

So this past week and weekend have proved incredibly busy. I haven’t had enough time to write up a full review of anything, but in an effort at compensation, I present you with capsules for two Japanese films: the pulpy Masked Rider : The First (aka: Kamen Rider), and the 1970’s classic, Castle of Sand. [...]

New Puffy, Love Psychedelico, and Dragon Ash

So I’ve been getting a bit tired of the junk videos on YouTube, both content and quality wise, so I started looking around. I came across Veoh, which actually has a whole bunch of music videos and tv shows, at some pretty decent bitrates. Oh yah, and no 10 minute limitations on videos.
Anyways, here are [...]

Garbage - Absolute Garbage // he-said, she-said // music video DVD/CD review // early!

The DVD (SHE SAID)
Oh, you know those little mistakes in life you regret? I regret agreeing to do this review. First off, I remember thinking “damn, they ripped off Curve” when Garbage first hit the scene, then I remember being puzzled when my otherwise gentleman-y and sickly sweet friend said “Shirley Manson is [...]

MOVIE REVIEW . The Heavenly Kings

A determined Daniel Wu walks at a heightened pace through a modern building’s corridor towards a fated elevator. As he puts on his most serious face, info screens à la Power Point cut in, informing us that in 1995, the Hong Kong music industry revenue was $1.68 billion, and in 2005 even though 40 [...]

Siouxsie Sioux solo album in September

Siouxsie and the Banshees were something my hipper older friends listened to and so I also listened to them, forced to if they were the one’s driving. But no, it wasn’t that bad, but I have to admit that only a few songs are my complete cup of tea, albeit a big honking cup. [...]

DVD REVIEW [EARLY] . You’re Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone

Hunched over like he has a hernia and strumming his guitar, Texas native Roger “Roky” Erickson interjects the melody with screeching wails inspired by Little Richard and James Brown and surprisingly “Oh Holy Night” from his churchy childhood. During opening interviews with him and his exes in the documentary You’re Gonna Miss Me When [...]

MOVIE REVIEW . Linda Linda Linda

Linda Linda Linda is my first encounter with Shojo cinema — light and fluffy tales of female friendship, fledgling romance, and good feelings that appeal to the loose-socked teenage girl crowd. To be entirely honest, I wouldn’t have picked it up if I knew this beforehand – I had stupidly confused it with Swing Girls, [...]
