So I was looking for some cool tea canisters online when I browsed the Numi Organic Tea site, thinking all was fine and normal and dandy, when OH MY GOD! Gila monsters and sea creatures attack! Of course I’m joking, but I am a bit disturbed at these new “flowering tea” bobbles. Handsewn in China, they expand and mystify (and horrify!) when doused with hot water.
They call it “flowering tea” as if it’s supposed to be beautiful or something. And I’m from Hawai’i, so I’m no stranger to sea creatures. I remember that there was nothing more fun than picking up sea cucumbers and having them spray their guts all over the place when I was a tot, so I’m not sure why the tea is creeping me out.. yet I couldn’t help but watch the time-elapsed videos (below) over and over again. The “Emerald Sun” one is fine until the last 10 seconds. Yikes!
lol. These things are crazy! I wouldn’t want to drink anything from that pitcher!
i was actually interested in these things until i saw that video. not so sure anymore. i’m not sure if it was jackass or wildboys (i know both a waste of silver screen) but they have fun with sea cucumbers. i’m sure you can imagine if you haven’t seen it.
I just saw these on the Harney and Sons website:
http://www.harney.com/artteas.html
They call them art teas. Of course as a still they look much more approachable than on video. Crazy!!!
I’m sure these aren’t as weird if you just set them out when they’re done flowering. But imagine just bringing it out in front of guests who have no idea what it is?
“What is that little black thing at the bottom?”
“oh, its the tea”
Tea flowers
“WTF!!?!?!”
disturbingly cool. i think i’d still drink it…
