Curse of the Golden Flower trailer

If there’s one thing that never fails to grab the attention of the Academy members, it’s Chinese martial artists abandoning the laws of physics against lush cg backgrounds and swirling, busy textiles, to paper thin narratives wrapped in art house pretense. Well, they’ll certainly be happy with Zhang Yimou’s latest, The Curse of the Golden Flower. It’s everything you’ve seen since Crouching Tiger, from The Myth to The Promise and through Yimou’s own Hero and House of Flying Daggers, only prettier — and this time with Gong Li and Chow Yun Fat. Heck, it even finds time to bite off of Japan’s Shinobi: Heart Under Blade. This film will release to loads of American critical acclaim, but more savvy audiences will further come to the realization these martial arts “epics” are fast becoming more tiring than the endless parade of Super Hero flicks. Check out the trailer here. Yawn. Then do yourself a favor and check out the trailer for Korea’s truly innovative Host, here.
