Don’t let the govt give the boot to analog without promising to upgrade your set to receive digital signals!

Just got this in my email. Thought it might be of interest.

You may not know it yet, but your TV could soon go dark.

Congress is getting ready to take up legislation that would set a firm date for all television signals to switch from the analog signal you receive now to an all-digital one. Yet, nearly 85% of Americans do not have a TV capable of receiving this new digital signal! Sign here.

This means that many consumers will have to buy a brand new TV or a set-top converter box (estimated cost of about $50 each) to receive the digital signal. And frankly, this is an expense that many working families today simply cannot afford, especially when there’s nothing wrong with their current set.

The government will also auction off the channels - our public airwaves - that are currently being used for local TV broadcasting, potentially earning billions of dollars on the sale. These funds can and should be used to compensate consumers who will be harmed by the impending switch to digital TV.

Congress is now in the process of deciding who should pay for the switch - consumers or the government. That’s why it’s critical to tell your Representatives that consumers shouldn’t have to bear the financial burden for the transition to digital TV! Send a letter!
