**UPDATED** Dukes of Hazzard Shelved?

It appears The Dukes of Hazzard movie, originally set to be released on August 5th, won’t be released in theaters after all. The reason being this TV-to-Film adaptation has done far worse than your average remake, they’ve gone ahead and essentially lifted plot points and thematic elements from the script of an old film called Moonrunners. Amazingly this wasn’t discovered until now …after the trailer has been released, the print campaigns have been started, and a slew of Jessica Simpson as Daisy Duke photos have hit film geek fansites.

You’d hope that in this day and age of monthly remake releases, scriptwriters would at least want to inject something unique into their work. Apparently the old cut and paste seemed a little more tempting than hard won creativity.

***UPDATE: Warner Bros has just settled out of court. Looks like the film will be on schedule once again.
