Endearing wrinkly beige aliens …and the humans who love them

Just thought it was funny and cool that these recently released videos from MGMT and Yeasayer both featured sniffle-worthy storylines with seriously sick wrinkly naked creatures and the underacting humans who care for them — I don’t know why, but I was pretty appalled when MGMT just artistically watched the alien tumble down the sand dune, and when Kristen Bell left her bleeding buddy behind.
One is like Dark Crystal, one is like ATHF‘s Meatwad. Cronenberg, eat your prosthetic heart out.
MGMT — ‘Congratulations’
Beautiful, perfect pacing and amazing eyeball puppetry. The guy in the latex suit schleppin’ around in the desert is ’bout to kill the director, though.
Yeasayer — ‘Madder Red’
Kristen Bell just wants to eat a pile of toast, read the WSJ, and nail an audition, but her terminally ill alien just won’t let that happen. Directed by Andreas Nilsson who also directed MGMT’s ‘Flash Delirium’, José González’ cover of Massive Attack’s ‘Teardrop’, and the Knife’s ‘Heartbeats’ (which José González later covered and I LOVE his version).
MORAL: No matter how much you want it, don’t keep an alien. Don’t be selfish now.
