Hair Don’t - Iranian salons forbidden to give Western style haircuts

Sure we can invade them, bomb their citizens, decimate buildings and homes, but no way, in no way can we influence their fashion sense! Barbers in Tehran Iran have been warned not to give Western style hairdos.

By Islamic law, women are required to wear dark shades of long loose-fitting clothing and veil their hair. Recently, defiant young women have been hitching up their skirts and bravely choosing brightly colored fabrics. Young men have been warned against donning too-tight or cropped t-shirts and wearing ties or bow-ties. They are also rebelling with hairstyles, inventing the haphazardly spiky gel-laden Khorusi/”Rooster” style (pictured below) or growing it out to shoulder-length or simply emulating Hollywood stars. Some salons go so far as to pluck customers’ eyebrows or apply make-up, which you can guess is completely frowned upon. Hell, some people frown upon metrosexual practices here in the U.S. too.

Although only 5% of the total area salons are guilty and are being monitored, if they are caught, they face store closures and revoked permits of up to a month-long. Disobedient citizens on the other hand, face lashings, fines, and jailtime.

Iranian periodicals revealed that police warned 16,000 women and 500 men just last week.
