Hideo Nakata to tackle Natsuo Kirino’s Out

Variety is reporting that Hideo Nakata will be helming New Line Cinema’s screen adaptation of Natsuo Kirino’s Out. Funny, I thought there was already a screen adaptation, though word is it wasn’t very good. Joe Forte of Firewall will be handling the script for the film, which doesn’t have me thinking this one will fare much better. But, it will be in English, so that the everyday average Joe’s will be able to check it out (and hopefully understand it). Maybe it will inspire them to check out something a little more challenging than children’s literature? Here’s hoping so.

If you’re wondering about the plot, here’s the synopsis taken from my own review of the book:

A group of women working the night shift at a Japanese box lunch factory aid their friend in covering up the murder of her abusive husband, handling all the grisly work of chopping up the body into easily portable, and thus disposable, pieces. As the title suggests (a reference to Macbeth) things don’t stop with the disposal. Human greed, jealousy, pride, laziness, and self-delusion complicate matters far more than any of the involved parties could ever expect, and dire consequences arise, affecting even those far outside of their conspiratorial circle.

  2. Are they going to change the ending? The warehouse thing was pretty grim.
