Holy flying frenchmen! Banlieue 13 hitting US theaters this month
I first heard about District B13 over a year and a half back, under its french name, Banlieue 13. The film’s high-flying Parkour martial arts looked pretty darn amazing, but I never thought it would actually see a release here. A silent dvd release followed by American remake maybe…but surely not a theatrical release. Well, now, thankfully Magnolia Pictures is set to release District B13 this month in select theaters, so you can enjoy this bad boy on the big screen.
For those of you who don’t know:
..the film is set in Paris, 2010, where ruthless gangs and druglords rule the ghettos of Paris. Without laws, rules, or hope for change, the police have abandoned the section of the city called District B13 and closed its borders. Damien, a member of the police elite task force and expert in martial arts, has been assigned by the government to locate a weapon of mass destruction stolen by the most powerful District B13 gang. In order to infiltrate the sector and defuse the bomb, though, Damien must join hands with Leïto, whose sole goal is to save his sister, who has fallen into the hands of the same gang.
Sure, I know the synopsis may not grab you, but that’s where the crazy acrobatic martial arts come in. See below:
