Haven’t had your fill of Superhero comicbook adaptations? Waiting for someone to bring Captain Marvel to the big screen? Hankering for cutie pie Jake Gyllenhaal to become an unwilling action superstar? Well all your dreams might have come true. Jake Gyllenhaal has just been rumored to star as Captain Marvel in Peter Segal’s Shazam!
Synopsis from imdb.com: Young Billy Batson finds himself gifted with the power of the wizard Shazam to fight against the forces of evil. With the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and speed of Mercury, he is the holder of the power of S.H.A.Z.A.M; he is Captain Marvel.
Captain Marvel (I’m sorry I wasn’t sure, I had to image.yahoo it) is the guy with the red tighties and the big gold lightning bolt on his chest. Not to be confused with The Flash, who had red tighties with gold lightning bolts over his ears and around his waist. Also not to be confused with Flash Gordon (song: he’ll save every one of us) who just had a tight red shirt. Auugh. Also, please don’t confuse it with Kazaam which was the mid 90s movie where Shaq was a genie. Okay now erase that memory from your brain. Maybe this grimace-y pic will help:

The screenplay will be written by John August, who wrote one of my favorite movies ever Go! He also wrote Charlie’s Angels and Tim Burton’s most recent flicks (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Big Fish, Corpse Bride) as well as the upcoming The Nines with Ryan Reynolds, Hope Davis and Elle Fanning (yes, it’s Dakota’s younger sister). I guess his screenplays just demand an actor mish-mash.
