Following the trend of regurgitating Japanese horror films such as The Ring, Juon/The Grudge and Dark Water, the Weinstein’s Dimension Films will remake Japanese horror thriller Kairo or Pulse. The original was written and directed by one of my favorite filmmakers, Kiyoshi Kurosawa. They are set to film in Romania, where a lot of horror production companies turned to after Sept 11 since it’s exotic, mysterious and cheap and they welcomed us possibly due to a pending NATO membership.
The film centers on a group of college students who discover that a computer hacker friend of theirs unwittingly pirated a strange wireless signal that opened a doorway for a terrifying evil to cross over into the world. As it spreads, everyone in its path is consumed, and the students must race to find a way to stop it. Source: Hollywood Reporter
Wes Craven and Ray Wright created the screenplay adaptation. Jim Sonzero will direct. Starring: Ian Somerhalder (Rules of Attraction, TV’s Lost), Kristen Bell (TV’s Veronica Mars), Christina Milian (Be Cool, Torque), Samm Levine (TV’s Freaks and Geeks), Rick Gonzalez. Pulse is due out sometime next year.
