La Victoria Taqueria — restaurant review — California

Thank God this place has their infamous orange sauce because their burritos taste like garbage. And I don’t mean a euphemism for bad food, I actually mean garbage like someone dumpster-dove for the tomatoes and lettuce and left ‘em in mayonnaise out in the sun (I saw that taqueria caveat piece on the news; I know how some restaurants cut costs). But oh yes, the addictive orange sauce is one of those enigmas that is probably better left a mystery. It’s creamy, it’s spicy, that’s all I need to know. Actually, ironically, there’s a good chance that the orange sauce is mayo that’s been left out in the sun. Besides the sauce, the major appeal of this place is that it is open late and although smaller than other bay area burritos, it fills you up. Also, not many mainstream places serve beef tongue, so hats off to La Vic’s.

  3. Its unfortunate to hear that La Victoria’s has gone down in quality. From my time working in San Jose I only had to stay away from the chorizo at La vic’s and I would be fine.

But that sauce, dear god… I haven’t had it in over a year and I still remember it.

  4. I’ve heard that it was always like that, or at least for some time now.. we’ve noticed that the burritos are shrinking a bit though. So you could eat a LaVic’s burrito without orange sauce before?
