Mountain View Stone Cookies — munchies review — Hawai’i
Posted on June 22, 2007 by Kris Nelson
Can you say “ow”? You might not be able to after eating a Mountain View Stone Cookie. These thick golden brown oblong discs are forged for fantastic gum-busting fury!! You’ll wish you were stranded on a deserted island somewhere just so you could invent new uses for them; building tiles, adze blades, frisbees, wakeboards. Who would’ve thought something so potentially painful could be so yummy?
Baked fresh (although seemingly awesomely tough and “stale”) in a little yellow corrugated tin-swathed bakery in Mountain View on the Big Island of Hawai’i, the stone cookie is much like the building it’s baked in. Bland as heck with just a tinge of sweet, I can’t explain why I gravitate towards them. Maybe it’s a Big Island thing. Maybe it’s because it’s so steeped in tradition. That might be it because even though they now sell chocolate chip (with a generous constellation of the teeniest tiniest choco dots) and soft versions, I still crave the plain. Ow.
