My X-tra X-travagant X-mas list

I know it’s too late for Christmas 2006, but these are items I will leave for my frugal mind to battle out with my consuming id until next Christmas. Just kidding, I know that my frugal mind is stronger. :)

This blurb was written shortly before I read this article where 10 people in San Francisco successfully pledged to cease consumerism and didn’t buy a single thing for an entire year in 2006. Thanks guys, way to make me feel guilty.

• My own private island* in the shape of Australia
  Of course I threw this one in as a joke, but the sale of islands that form a miniature World Map are in fact, for real. They were constructed in (where else?) Dubai and they range from 150,000 sq ft-450,000 sq ft and cost $10-$45 milleeeon dollars. *The mini Australia is actually comprised of an island cluster.
• Plane tickets to Zurich to dine in complete darkness and be served by visually impaired waitstaff at the Blindekuh/Blind Cow Restaurant. I hear the food is only so-so though.
• Nautilus speakers $40K for the pair, but they look like this.
• The Meowlingual Cat Translator
  By far the cheapest on this list at $75, but still a stretch for a gadget that will probably lose its appeal after a few months of trial amusement. Besides, only one of our cats is really vocal and the others just let us know when they’re hungry.
• Lexus RX 400h
  I’ve seen the Toyota version of what must be the preceding RX 300 in HK films, but no word on its release here in the States, ever. I seriously almost bought one of these cute egg-shaped hybrid SUVs last year but thankfully woke up. “Do I really need rotating headlights and rain-sensing wipers? Uh, no.”
• Mercedes CLS 63 AMG
  “Only” $93K. A small price to pay for limited visibility through crescent-ed side windows, but my god is it sexy. Maybe those windows are the vehicular equivalent of “bedroom eyes”, LOL.
• Jaguar XJ220
  Talk about obsession-inducing. I made a 3D rendering of it and one in 2D for a crazy CS project they made us do in Corel Draw of all programs. Only ~$350K, reduced from the original $650K-$800K, haha. Even though it is not street legal in the U.S., I think I would look better in it than Elton John or the Sultan of Brunei, dammit.
• Marriage ceremony at the Ice Hotel in Sweden
  Chris and I have several “anniversary ceremonies” planned so we just might actually do this one. You can stay in a regular “warm accommodations” or brave the -5 to -8 degree bedroom where you literally sleep on a block of ice (albeit artfully carved) that’s layered with reindeer skins and/or furs. Pretty dang romantique. And if you’re gonna do cold, might as well do it all the way!
