New Michel Gondry movie with Jack Black

If you’ve ever thought to yourself “hey Self, wouldn’t it be great if someone would make a movie starring Jack Black, Danny Glover, Mia Farrow and Mos Def?” Well, Michel Gondry has answered that dream. Yes, the genius behind wildly beautiful Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and music videos rife with inventive cutesy cardboard cut-outs and an uncanny grasp of space/time continuum is creating yet another trippy realm.

Be Kind Rewind is about a guy (Danny Glover) who owns a video store (like think oooold school VHS video store) and his best friend Jerry (Jack Black) who accidentally erases all the tapes with his big fat magnetized brain. Sounds Gondry-esque already. Jerry’s brain became magnetized when he tried to destroy a power plant he believed to be the source of his headaches. The two try to appease the video store’s only loyal customer by reenacting films such as The Lion King, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, When We Were Kings, and Robocop.

  1. It’s 1am and I’m o.O after reading this. As ’strangeworld’ as this film sounds, I have to see it. Jack Black, Danny Glover, Mia Farrow AND Mos Def?! …in a film about big fat magnetized brains and video stores?! It’s a must.

One must appreciate imagination. Superheros, Toxic Headaches, and Video store owners included.
