Pssst hey buddy, woulda like to buy some top of the line genuine Flu Pandemic Prep? Come on, you know you need it, you know you want it, everybody’s doing it. Whatsamatter, you can’t spare $5 billion? You don’t get just one, but 5,000 ramped-up acute care hospitals. It makes a great gift for they ‘ol wifey and worth every penny.

Still not convinced? Here, let me break it down for ya.. (courtesy of Nancy Donegan spokesperson for the American Hospital Association):

• $1 million+ for an average-sized, 164-bed hospital.
• $200,000 to develop a specific pandemic plan.
• $160,000 for staff education and training
• $400,000 to stockpile minimal personal protective equipment
• $240,000 to stockpile “basic supplies.”
• $200,000 annually per hospital for upkeep.

The $5 billion estimate does not include the cost of purchasing mechanical ventilators or the cost of stockpiling antiviral drugs. You’re on your own there buddy.
