Real Life Face-Off

The man bear-mauled in China, the dog-shredded woman in France (pictured below, the little girl caught in the lawnmower in India (pictured left).. these are the tales of two of the so-far successful face transplants in the world, and one obvious humongous skin graft which I included for “dramatic effect”, hehe. But what do you think of this real-life Face Off? Some people argue ethics (as always with a new radical surgical procedure) stemming from taking the face of a brain-dead patient and pasting it on anothers. Most people just think it’s gross or coool.
I’m personally on the fence about it. The first things I thought about were “they took someone else’s face while they were asleep?! Bastards!” Then I thought about the person lying there without a face, and no fault to their own, well I mean besides trying to scare off angry animals. Then, being a Taurus
and prone to head-overlapping too many things, I over-analyzed possible problems with identity crises, psychological resist, and the obvious tissue rejection possibility, but other than that, I just find it mega fascinating. Not quite as fascinating as the guy that can grow bladders (which I’ll get around to reporting someday), but futuristic-techno enough. I read that the chances for tissue rejection actually increase with time, spiraling up to 40%, so it’s also something for the future SNAFU file.
I guess the good news is, the Chinese man is happily slurping up soup with his new mouth and the French woman is using her new lips to smoke again.
