I was watching the MacNeil Lehrer news hour last night and learned of this attempt by the right to cut funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, due to it being an “unchecked liberal playground”. How is it a playground for the liberal viewpoint? The republican stooge featured on the program kept citing NOW with Bill Moyers and a show where a rabbit had two mothers, preaching tolerance of alternate lifestyles. The thing is, Moyers hasn’t worked for the CPB for over a year. NOW is currently headed by someone else.
So, the right seeks to cut funding by 25% for all CPB programming. It may not seem like much, but this would cut funding for educational childrens shows, history programs, nature programs, and my favorite show, NOVA. I was not aware these shows displayed any sort of political bias. In addition, this 25% cut would put many stations out of commission. You know how many times they have pledge drives throughout the year!
This isn’t about cutting funding for a channel for broadcasting propaganda. It’s about preventing the public from educating themselves. If you don’t have programs that present both sides of an issue, the only outlets left are the propaganda machines, FOX News and CNN. If you don’t have educational programming for the children, the next generation wil hopefully be less intelligent, and the less informed and less intelligent the populace, the easier they are to control.
The proposal to cut funding has already passed the House. Don’t let it pass the Senate! Take action below!

Subject: This time, it’s for real: Save NPR and PBS
Hi,
You know that email petition that keeps circulating about how Congress is slashing funding for NPR and PBS? Well, now it’s actually true. (Really. Check at the bottom if you don’t believe me.)
Sign the petition telling Congress to save NPR and PBS:
http://www.moveon.org/publicbroadcasting/
The House of Representatives is about to vote on whether to slash funding for NPR and PBS, starting with “Sesame Street,” “Reading Rainbow” and other commercial-free children’s shows. If approved, this would be the most severe cut in the history of public broadcasting, threatening to pull the plug on Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Oscar the Grouch.
The cuts would eliminate more than $200 million for NPR, PBS and local stations immediately, with more cuts likely in the future. The loss could kill beloved children’s shows like “Clifford the Big Red Dog,” “Arthur,” and “Postcards from Buster.” Rural stations and those serving low-income communities might not survive. Other stations would have to increase corporate sponsorships.
The House will vote on the cuts as soon as Tuesday. Can you help us reach 1 million signatures calling on Congress to save NPR and PBS?

Thanks!
