The charming tin ceiling tiles, the padded diner-style booths in odd teal and purple stripes, the menus that list items such as “breakfust[sic] quesadillas” and “asian burritos” (egg rolls).. but the best thing about the Palo Alto Creamery are its pies. Seasonal switches daily, they have chocolate chip pecan, mile-high apple, chocolate ganache tortes and a gamut of cream and fruit-filled. These babies are piled high with real, rich ingredients, not canned or processed fillings or foodstuffs. Even the scrumptiously sweet abnormally thick crusts are like a dessert on their own. Here’s our latest trip: blueberry and banana cream. They’re so good we downed half of our generous slices before even remembering to pick up the camera!
Their massive floury onion rings, vegetarian “burger” patties, and breakfasts are also tops. They even serve fancy entrees and wine in case you’ve changed your mind about “slumming” it Friday night.
Only one caveat: water glasses are puny, refills are rare. Perhaps they want to encourage you to quench your thirst with one of their milkshakes and eggcreams or italian sodas, all of which are capable of transporting you to a time lost, where people still smiled at each other on the street and these sweet treats only cost a nickel.
