Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple — Mt. Madonna pt. 3

Posted on April 26, 2010 by Kris Nelson

Hey now let us take you on a virtual tour of Mt. Madonna, where, sprinkled along the summit, melting into the redwoods, lie three intriguing points of interest…

“Namaste,” the cheerful guide greeted us at the entrance to the Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple.

Grinning monkey gods greeted us at the base of the stone steps leading up to the shrine.

Past these steps stood a shaded platform where Chris and I queued up to be blessed on the last Saturday they were offering a reprieve for visitors (starting April 17, reservations must be made in advance).

Sankat Mochan means deliverer from troubles and Hanuman is the Hindu god who once ate the sun because he thought it was a mango, humbling all other deities.
