Siouxsie Sioux solo album in September

Siouxsie and the Banshees were something my hipper older friends listened to and so I also listened to them, forced to if they were the one’s driving. But no, it wasn’t that bad, but I have to admit that only a few songs are my complete cup of tea, albeit a big honking cup. Croonerific tunes like Silver Waterfalls and Ghost in You are the epitome of haunting. Peek-a-boo is creepy cute. I even liked the richer sounding, “poppier” Kiss Them For Me and Fear (of the Unknown) released in the early 90s that had pretty heavy radio rotation (much to the dismay of hardcore SatB fans everywhere I’m sure). Dear Prudence will always be so signature, even though Siouxsie’s exposed armpit tufts in the video gave my friend emotional scars. One of my skater buds was relentless in singing “Christine.. the strawberry girl” to me incessantly, replete with overdone faux Brit accent. So those are my fond memories of Siouxsie and the Banshees. As you can tell, theirs is a delectably odd following and one certainly worth revisiting.

So I thought that that was it; wild-haired Haida-totem-eyelinered bird-call vocalist Siouxsie would only remain in memories, but not so. I heard that a couple of days ago Siouxsie Sioux’s debut video as a solo artist (although I’m sure many might reflect that she was always the main draw, even though -now hubby- Budgie and Robert Smith were both brief Banshees) was yanked from it’s short ride of free advertising on YouTube. I didn’t even get a chance to see it, but then again, I didn’t really search for it yet. Into a Swan is from the album Mantaray, due for release this September.

  1. Siouxie rocks my world. I want this bad. Like Michael Jackson Bad. You know, bad in a good way bad.

  2. I’ve just published a book of short stories based on Siouxsie’s work. I’m hoping the release of the book with the release of her solo album (which I’m freakin’ anxious to hear), will opt for a wonderful bit of synergy.
    Cheers,
