Tosca is Giacomo Puccini’s tale of brutality and betrayal, Astroboy is a kewpie-like cute-pie. One ends in a fall, one is all about flying. So what do these two have in common? They both may be playing at the same cineplex this October.
Thanks to the ongoing Live in HD series, encore performance transmissions for nine performances from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York are shared with several states including California, Illinois, Washington (check the participating theatres list). If you’re in New York, live outdoor ...

Director: Takashi Okazaki
Starring: Samuel L. Jackson, Lucy Liu
Genre: Action
Given the number of articles previously published at this site, the recent release of the Afro Samurai video game (complete with giant, billboard advertisements), and the fact that this is a sequel, I think I can forego the usual introductory paragraph. Suffice it to say, Afro Samurai’s back and looking better than ever.
The last go round with Afro saw him climbing the headband ladder to avenge the death of his father. Resurrection picks up a few years later, with Afro still ...

Yup, it’s review catch-up time again. Here are three more films that are worth mentioning, but not deserving of a full review.
Black Snake Moan . Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci star in this tale of a young nymphomaniac and the god-fearing blues singer determined to set her on a path of righteousness. Directed by Craig Brewer, of Hustle and Flow, the film is easily one of the most original American efforts a major studio has put out in years. The film’s posters and trailer, featuring a chained Christina Ricci, ...

Here’s a good rule to follow regarding Stephen King film adaptations: if he wasn’t in it, it’s good. Just compare Stand By Me and Thinner and you’ll see what I mean. Well, he doesn’t pop in for a cameo in 1408, so that’s already a good sign. Don’t get me wrong, Stephen King was a good read back in middle school because there’s just enough occult and curse word titillation and he wrote huge honking novels like It that any kid would be proud to complete. ...

For the sake of a cohesive DVD review, I’m reprinting the relevant portion of my review of the Afro Samurai Director’s Cut below. However, if you’ve already read that article, simply jump to the DVD section for my evaluation of the disc. (Note: I will be ...

So, Funimation was nice enough to send us the first episode of Afro Samurai, complete with the new voiceovers by Samuel L. Jackson, Kelly Hu, and Ron Perlman. To be honest I have no familiarity with Takashi Okazaki’s Manga, or the original Japanese Language cut of the miniseries, so I really had no idea what to expect.
Note: If you haven’t read our previous blurb on Afro Samurai, check it out here.
Straight of, this has got to be one of the craziest Anime releases to ever hit basic cable television. Afro ...

Just received this press release this morning. Ron Perlman and Kelly Hu will be joining Samuel L. Jackson in providing the American voices for Gonzo Entertainment’s Afro Samurai. All in all the project sounds pretty darn cool. Now if they could just get Jim Kelly to do some guest voices, the series would be golden.

Believe it or not, I’ve got capsule sized capsule reviews for once. Check check it out.

Sex is Zero
For the first half of its runtime this Korean hybrid of American Pie and Bring it On is the grossest, sexiest, funniest college comedy you’ve ever seen (Seriously, Kris and I were laughing so hard we had to keep rewinding). Then, at about the 1 hour and 5 minute mark it abruptly shifts gears and becomes an after school special about unwanted pregnancy and noncommittal playboys. What the hell? But on the whole ...
