Wading through tech news is something not everyone looks forward to. Luckily for you, I crawl the RSS feeds so you don’t have to. Let’s get started. The previously dubbed ‘Windows Longhorn’ is now officially called ‘Windows Vista.’ Now with the use of virtual folders, stronger security (allegedly), a sleeker interface (looks like OSX you say?), a new filing system and few other features. But in Microsoft tradition, don’t count on a release date that will be on time.
The big news in processors is that Intel will be debuting their new dual core processors. What this means for you is more speed (same promises I know), and more money. At this point, if you have not already done so, I think it is time to switch to AMD. However, don’t place your bets on AMD 64 quite yet as most programs for Windows x64 don’t even work yet. In other news, IE7 is scheduled to return. What is that you say? A new tabbed browser interface? Both Firefox and Opera have had this feature since the inception of mankind. And IE7 will plan to launch with a built in search toolbar (how modern of you) that will allow you to search right from your browser! Sorry but no current set release date yet. Seems like Microsoft is making all of the recent news lately but have you heard of Microsoft Genuine Advantage yet? If you have a pirated copy of Windows, you now will not be allowed to update your copy of Windows. However, as expected, there are many work-arounds should you have a less than legal copy of Windows. I will not point you to them but if you Google them, there are swarms of tutorials on how to bypass this minor inconvenience. Until next time, hope that Microsoft does not once again steal the top headlines.
