I guess that’s supposed to be a rather good thing, well better than their very literal multi-tasking dancy TV ads. Intel unleashed news that the major makeover for its Centrino Laptop platform is the company’s very first foray into flash memory chips. Flash chips you say? Yay I say. The new NAND “Turbo Memory” cache architecture nicknamed “Robson” should be quicker, more efficient, and should ease up on the power suckage ergo allowing for longer battery life. (Yes I added the “ergo” just to sound smart after throwing the technical term “power suckage”). But seriously, the Core 2 Duo generates a lot of heat, so anything that could keep my desk plate from melting would be more than welcome!
Intel had instilled the code name “Santa Rosa” for this project, which is also intended to support their new wifi that will be up to five times faster at 300 mps (megabits per second) max. That makes sense since the Centrino was like the spokesmodel for wifi back in the day. Unfortunately news that the deal for code name Windigo with Nokia (who was slated to manufacture the 3G HSDPA mini-card module) had burst back in February.
Other points of interest include the Intel TV Wizard and collaboration with over 230 laptop designs ranging from 17″ wide-screens to tablet notebooks nary more than three pounds light. You may have seen them last year with ergonomic extending stemmed-monitors or sliding monitor paths. Awesome. Now that should warrant better commercials, doncha think?
