Think Geek?

I’m getting tired of seeing the word geek used so proudly. Film geeks, computer geeks, band geeks, etc. I’d like to see the term “geek” gradually be replaced with “nerd.” While both are similar in defintion, to me the term “nerd” at least implies a slightly higher classfication of intelligence and devotion to ones subject of interest. Geek on the other hand, while also hinting at a lack of social skills, adds an unfortunate association with abhorrent acts involving chickens.

  1. The word ‘geek’ is a positive connotation in today’s society. Almost chic, like emo and hardcore. I prefer to go by the term ’stealth geek,’ as the word ‘nerd’ just reminds me of the movie Revenge of the Nerds (you guys never did do a review on that did you?). Just my 2 cents.

  2. I actually could never get through any of the Revenge of the nerds movies. Dunno, I just don’t like the word “geek”. Somehow, to me, nerd seems less offensive.
