Just an update as to our forthcoming review titles. Things have been extremely hectic this past week, so most likely I won’t have time for a new review until later this week. Still, we have a lot of stuff in the cooker, so there’s no shortage of material to write about.
In the mainstream theatrical circuit we’ve recently checked out Doomsday, 10,000 B.C., the Signal, and the Adam Corolla film, The Hammer.
In the ever growing review queue we still have Seijun Suzuki’s Taisho Trilogy (this week, I’m hoping. *Fingers crossed*), Kantoku Banzai, Ten Nights of Dream, Red Angel, Wool 100%, Okatsu the Fugitive, Getting Any, Yakuza in Love, Resurrection of the Golden Wolf, and much much more.
In the music realm, I’ve been listening to Love Psychedelico’s forthcoming US Debut album, We Are Love Psychedelico. It’s a great CD, and I hope to have something up this week. I’ve also been listening to quite a bit of Tommy February^6, the first solo side project of Brilliant Green frontwoman, Tomoko Kawase. It’s something like OMD crossed with Atom and His Package, synth heavy and slightly deranged. Interesting stuff.
What little free time we have had has been spent watching episodes of Flight of the Conchords. If you’ve not seen this show, you have to check it out. It’s insanely funny, and my new favorite. Included below are 4 of our favorite parody songs from the show. Check ‘em out.
Motha ‘Uckers
If You’re Into It
Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros
It’s Business Time

you were sent a screener for ‘ten nights of dreams’ from the company releasing it in america?….

Naw. Wasn’t even aware there was one scheduled. Is Viz releasing it? We’ve got the Region 3 English Subtitled version. Most likely we’ll just be doing a review of the film itself. I take it we should move that up in the queue though?

it’s being released theatrically in april, and it was picked up by cinema epoch - the folk releasing miike’s ‘demon pond’, as well as two pink films ’slave widow’ (naomi tani - “dynamic piston!!!!!”) and ‘the bite’. they seem to be suddenly keen on asian stuff. anyway, you’ve the taiwanese disc then, something i didn’t pick up because i’m unsure of the quality of their releases and because they’re double the price of the already-confirmed R1. i would move it up - personally, considering the talent involved, and having seen the trailers when they started appearing last year on the japanese site (more people need to learn to follow the official sites for the original japanese releases, see what else they personally react to, then cover it well - all the necessary translation tools and listings sites are online) i’m perhaps more excited for this film than many others i’ve had a taster of… that said, my list of projects i’m interested in is something like 60 films long.
