One of the coolest screenings Kris and I ever attended was Friday the 13th part 3, in 3-D, at midnight, on Friday the 13th at the Alamo Drafthouse in downtown Austin. These guys know how to screen cult films. As cool as the Castro and the Red Vic are, they’re not even playing in the same ballpark as the Alamo Drafthouse. Case in point: their rolling roadshow productions. Previous outings have involved screening of Deliverance on a canoe trip with one of the sodomites from the film. Another was a screening of Open Water on the open water of Lake Travis. Another, a full fledged 80’s style campout for the screening of Freddy vs. Jason. These trips are mega cool, and undeniably fun, and now we’ll have one in the Bay Area.
The Alamo Drafthouse and co-sponsor NetFLix will be holding a screening of Don Siegel’s Escape from Alcatraz, on Alcatraz Island. Not only will attendees see the film, they will go on a tour of alcatraz, attend a VIP reception, and, get this, spend the night in cell block D. How amazingly cool is that?!
The screening will be held on Saturday, August 26th, at 8:00pm. Ticketing information can be found on the Alamo Drafthouse site here. Hope to see you there!
