Let the countdown to another of Wes Craven’s suspense-thriller tryouts commence. It’ll be a short one, since Red Eye opens next Friday. I’m pretty anxious about it, even though it’s been watered down for the teeny bopper audience, but that’s to be expected if you want to make a profit in this fickle market.. just look at the disappointing turnout for The Island and Stealth, both of which have only grossed a fraction of the $120 million they each cost to make.
Anyway, sources say Red Eye is going to resemble claustrophobia and suspense in Hitchcock-esque form, stepping away from the slash-and-hack scareathons or homicidal fiends usually attached to Craven’s stigma. Cillian Murphy, one of my favorite actors woohoo, stars as the unseemingly devious and unabashedly silly pseudonymed “Jackson Rippner”. Let’s see if the character, which Wes Craven calls “complex” holds up or winds up being even sillier.
Check out the extended trailer and short interviews on the official film site.
