My college friend had a theory that no one, NO ONE can be a simultaneous Beatles and Rolling Stones fan. “Just ask anyone,” she quipped convincingly, “they will either prefer one or the other; no one can love or be a big fan of both.” I was skeptical, but at the time I hadn’t really given the Stones a proper chance, pausing only with the “Wild Horses” cover by The Sundays. I am a diehard Beatles fan, so part of me believed her. But what the Rolling Stones recently announced brought me one step closer to bungling her theory.
Mick, Keith and the gang asked to relocate their upcoming Belgrade concert in the Hippodrome in order to avoid spooking the 300 horses housed in nearby stables. When the media leaked that the horses would be sedated throughout the concert, the Stones balked, refusing to condone. “The Rolling Stones’ band members are great animal lovers, ” Raka Maric, Music Star manager wrote. “We didn’t manage to convince The Stones’ management that the concert would not harm the horses.”
That’s cause Beatles fans have taste. Stones fans will listen to any old crap.
