I love New York. I know I don’t live there, but the friends I have from there and the people I’ve met when visiting there are just the best. Honest, genuine, friendly and confident, New Yorkers are not always what you see in the movies. Those movies are usually written by and produced in Hollywood anyways.
In the past few months, I have seen a lot of evidence supporting my love of New Yorkers, all of Superman-like heroism. There was the man who jumped on top of another man to save him from an oncoming subway train heading into Harlem. There were the two men who caught a three-year-old who fell from a fourth floor Bronx balcony. The most recent account is a cabbie from Queens who returned a bag filled with diamond rings to a passenger who left him a 30-cent tip. When he discovered the bag, he desperately tried to track the woman down, calling the number on her luggage tag as a last resort. The woman, a jeweler, then gave him a $100 reward which he took some persuading to accept. “I cannot take a penny for being honest,” he protested.
When asked why he didn’t just keep the jewels, he said, “I’m not going to take someone else’s money or property to make me rich. I don’t want it that way”.

lol wow that’s crazy, so there are kind people too in this world
I absolutely agree with you in regards to New York. It disturbs me how many people are so narrow minded to accept what they’ve been told, or seen as reality. I lived in the Bay Area most of my life and I have to say this is probably the rudest, most narrow minded, and to put it blunty, rude population I’ve personally seen.
Being fortunate enough to spend extended time in NYC has proven my misconceptions about NYC people wrong from day 1. Although motor vehicles take priority over pedistrians that isn’t to say that new yorkers will not say hi. They will, and will give you correct directions, and would you believe put in a extra quarter to buy you some extra time before the ticket maid arrives. I believe anyone who’s lived in NYC for a moment will agree.
As for the diamonds…what good would they do me? I’m not sure how much of an effort I’d put into tracking her down, I have a feeling the story is a little stretched but yeah…I still have faith in people. It’s slim, but it’s there.
Only a $100 reward for someone returning a bag of diamond rings to her?!? That jeweler is cheap!
