Yahoo! News . Don’t bet on Auctions

Next month, Yahoo! Auctions will join Yahoo! Photos in the site cemetery. Buried by the successful eBay, Auctions really didn’t have much of a chance at being a major player because at this point in time, no one does. eBay secures more than 94% of total online auctions with Amazon’s auctions at approximately 0.3% and Y! Auctions at 0.2%.

Yahoo! isn’t upset over the “loss” since it gained a strategic alliance with eBay last year, so you can say we lost a site but gained a friend.

The announced last day to list your items on Y! Auctions is June 3, 2007 and the last day to bid/buy is June 16th.

The love affair with Yahoo! Points is also ending next month on June 30th. Y! Points displays accruals for rewards earned upon using the Y! Visa credit card. I have never even heard of this property, and doubt its popularity, but if you are a Y! Points member, be warned that your goodies will expire at the end of next month.
