According to wikipedia, a “mondegreen is the mishearing (usually accidental) of a phrase in such a way that it acquires a new meaning”, you know like “’scuse me while I kiss this guy” in lieu of “’scuse me while I kiss the sky” in Jimi Hendrix’s famous Purple Haze. There are abundant mondegreens at mom-n-pop asian-run karaoke bars that feature really bizarre background videos of German landscapes, showering bikini girls and/or grazing zoo goats(!). It also happens a lot in impromptu “car-aoke” sessions while joyriding with friends with good lungs.
If you’d like to avoid potentially embarrassing yelping personal mondegreens, then head on over to Yahoo! and include “lyrics” in your search for your fave song or artist. You’ll be sure to impress at the next impromptu “car-aoke”.
