Boy, was I missing some wonderfully weird stuff. This music video for Chu Lip (a little shortened, and the sound mix a little off) has cow poop hats, dancing fanboys, urinal backdrops, jumping froggies (a reference to the Chu-Lip single’s b-side), smiling people, and toilet paper showers. What this all has to do with a song about kisses, I’ll never know. But ...

So way back 6 months or-so ago I answered a question on Stack Overflow regarding the best films about Geeks/Hackers/Programmers. My answer was a bit obscure and outlandish, so it was never upvoted, but I felt it worth a mention here, along with some other awesome coding movies.
So, without further ado, three awesome films about Programmers/Hackers/Geeks

Clint Howard is a nerd at a military academy. He’s picked on by bullies morning, noon, and night…that is, until he contacts Satan on his IBM Compatible 286!!!! Bloody revenge in the monochrome era. Highly ...

So I was getting a bit frustrated with the responsiveness of my Ubuntu Firefox when compared to the Firefox installed on my Windows machine. I’d tried everything I could find, from about:config tweaks to disabling IPv6 support, but still Firefox remained one area where the Windows experience was actually noticeably faster.
So I did some further research. Turns out the default installed version of Ubuntu’s Firefox has Pango, a font and script smoothing library, enabled by default. I’m all for smooth fonts, but it appears Pango can slow down Firefox’s performances ...

In March, Chris took me to NUMMI, New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. where they mass assemble Toyota Corollas, Toyota Tacomas, and Pontiac Vibes. Sadly, the public tour has been canceled indefinitely, but Chris was lucky enough to be invited to a private tour, and I was lucky enough to be his +1.
What really impressed me at NUMMI, besides the giant hydraulic robots, was the team spirit and collective work ethic. Based on several Japanese principles of increasing productivity and efficiency by avoiding waste of energy, time, and effort, ...

Okay, so Microsoft did have its own search engine before. It was called Live Search and maybe one person in any given peer group had an inkling it existed, but most people never even heard of it; definitely didn’t use it. So search is not exactly “new” to Microsoft. But what’s getting everyone’s attention now is being called Microsoft’s “new” search engine, and maybe they’ll even use it.
What’s exciting about Bing, Microsoft’s attempt to innovate the live search engine realm, or as they call it, a “decision ...

Just another reason to be proud to work for Cisco Systems. :)
[via Network World] Cisco has been added to the Dow Jones Industrial Average, replacing GM. Travelers has also been added to the stock index, replacing Citigroup.
Cisco had been expected for months to replace a Dow component. The move means that Cisco, the tech bellwether with a market cap of $112 billion, is a stable and key indicator of the nation’s and globe’s economy.
Quoting a statement from Wall Street Journal Managing Editor Robert Thomson, the AP said Cisco was ...

Kris and I attended Maker Faire this weekend, a huge carnival cornucopia of innovation and creativity, melding art and technology featuring physics freaks (above left) and pyro artists (above right) techno-scientists, steampunk kids, needlecrafters, robot warriors, you name it. One of the coolest things we saw (aside from UC Santa Cruz’s lightning demonstration) was the Life Size Mouse Trap, a full scale recreation of the Milton Bradley Rube Goldberg-esque board game classic. Now, we didn’t take any video ourselves, but here’s a video of a successful performance ...

While my father was out this weekend, he requested I assemble lists of my top-three films in various categories, so he could check them out. I’d been thinking of putting together themed film pairings for a while, so this suggestion seemed like a great idea. Thus, I introduce Dreamlogic.net’s Triple-Play. Being that we love more films than most (possibly due to a high tolerance for cult camp), standard categories just aren’t going to work. So, each article will feature a trio of targeted genre fare, guaranteed to satisfy your ...

My short and sweet review: I loved it. I’ll be seeing it again, and waiting in line to buy the dvd. Salvation takes the series in a new direction, while keeping mythology established until now completely intact (No small feat to say the least). Action is great, acting is great, story was awesome. There were a few sections that felt a bit rushed here and there, but overall I had a complete blast. Don’t believe the critics. Go and see it for yourself. Terminator Salvation is my favorite film ...
